What is the license the footage is released?
The footage which is free to download is released under the creative commons copyrights Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International.
Reselling or redistribute the footage on other footage sites or collections is not allowed.
The footage which you have to pay for has usually bigger file sizes and therefore it is not possible to provide it for free. This footage is released with a royality free license .
What are the differences to all other footage sites?
1. The price is very competitive you also have the possibility to use the lowres version without watermark in your works to test the footage.
2. The quality oft the footage is always top, that means tileable textures , 4k or HD video content for the timelapse series, 10k HDRI´s or above.
3. Simple to use. Direct download links on the front-page. Every release is compressed in one zip -file, you don´t have to download one pic after another. You don´t have to registrate (you can – as you like at the purchase) or type in your email address, Nothing – just straight download.
How can I get updated when yo release a new archive? You don´t have a mailing list.
Use the RSS feed of my blog or like the facebook page.
Why do you use a JPG sequence for the time lapse movies and not a mov or avi?
There are problems with container formats such as avi´s or mov´s because of the different codecs that are used in production. A JPG can use every editing or compositing system so I wanted to be 100% compatible.
QuickTime prores files (mov) HQ are also available at the paid downloads.
Why are the Hdris from your site not looking right in my 3d program? They appear some kind of crisp and contrasted in the program (maya, max, softimage…)
You have to change the gamma of the hdri images to 2.2 that they appear right in your 3d application. You can do this with Photoshop – adjustments – exposure or with a hdr application like hdrshop.
What about other openfootage sites?
The site has nothing to do with openfootage.com, openfootage.de or openfootage.org!
I payed for the download and don get the footage!
1. After Payment you get immediately an email with the download link and the invoice. If you think you did not get it please check your spam folder!
2. After Payment on paypal there is a link back to openfootage there you can download the files direct on the page.

beautiful work, i have music that i want to match to these sequences, how do i do that in moviemaker?
you have to convert the jpg?s to a format which moviemaker can handle as a video not only as a still frame. For that you can use for example https://www.tmpgenc.net/de/download/download.html Tmpgenc thats a freeware converter for mpg. Just choose the first jpg in the video source and convert the sequence to a avi(better quality- depending on the codec you use – for Pal you may choose the windows integrated dv codec) or a mpg file. Then import this files to movie maker and you can cut them.
A better way is to use some kind of better editing software like Adobe Premiere, Avid or on Apple final cut pro. There are also try out?s available. They can import the jpg?s as a sequence and you can cut these clips directly.
It is some kind of hard to convert each sequence to a movie file but i choose a jpg sequence to be independet of the operating system and the available video codecs.
Both on apple and windows quicktimePro has the ability to convert the jpgs to a avi or mov but you have to pay for the pro Version of quicktime.
Have fun with the editing!
thank you for your work
WOW! great resources, and it’s simply great we can use all this for only a credits link :O
thanks a bunch, this is greatly appreciated!!

Nice site, congratulations!! Your resources are great, awesome!!
Thank you for sharing.
What a great site!!! Planning to use some of your texture packs and timelapse clips to composite some shots for my upcoming movie project. Will definitely give you credit and link to your site.
it’s awesome what you’re doing – and that you share it! i really respect that. thank you for all the effort – and stuff!
well, hi admin adn people nice forum indeed. how’s life? hope it’s introduce branch 😉
Fantastic! this is just what I have been looking for a website with high resolution textures free to use. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Ehi, i’m italian… Thanks too much for your share!!
This site is very great. I’m learning timelapse and work with adobe premiere pro 3.0. For timelapse i use a Nikon D60 camera.
If u have some good suggestion to give me to begin i’ll be grateful to u!
(sorry if my english is not so perfect)
my english is also far away from being perfect 🙂
with the D60 you will need some kind of intervallometer that you could shoot in the field without a laptop connected.
You could use for example this device http://www.pclix.com for setting and shooting intervalls…
another tip is to shoot in raw format that you can correct the whitebalance after the shooting
turn off automatics on the camera except you are shooting a sunrise with a longer intervall
Thanks for sharing your solid footage. Projects like yours not only inspire and facilitate the realisation other peoples ideas, they contribute to an openminded society. Hut ab und Danke.
really superb stuff….mega thanks!!
Hello and thanks for this stuff, it’s amazing!!
I used some of your HDR images to illuminate my renders and they look real good, thanks again!!! But I have a question about the backgrounds, how do I use them?? I tried to use them but when I try to place them in the scene it says it is too big to load… could you thell me some tips and tricks about how to use the backgrounds???
Thanks again and congratulations about your site!!!
Thank you for sharing these masterpieces. You are a trailblazer. I hope the net in later years grows into a more sharing focused community of creative thinkers. You have inspired me to share my own personal material.
Hey, it’s great that you share your work this way.
I was wondering, what would be your choice of flash/video player for a web site run by WordPress?
JW Player, or Flowplayer?
I know that both have free and commercial versions, but I can’t decide which one is better.
And, what to use to convert the video files. I think flash came a long way…
Incredible pictures. Amazing and more than anything else you are offering them free to the world. You are an inspiration. Thank you.
Hello, LOVE your work!!! I just got Serif Movieplus software. I want to import a cloud time lapse into movieplus.
I downloaded your zip file and extracted into all the individual jpegs files. Is this correct? or is it supposed to be one mpeg or something?
Absolutely grat! Thank U 😉
I’m an art at the MIU Art Institute in Miami.
I love you site. Thank you very much for sharing your footage. I wish I would have known about your site before, but it better later than never.
HI, It’s awesome what you’re doing – and that you share it! thank you for all the superb quality stuff!!!
thank you very much guys … keep it on
Great site, i love ur HDRIs they are the best, its the same quality like dosch HDRIs!
so thank u very much for sharing this nice stuff.
I hope its possible to share more Hdris with us ;-).
so Thank u! And i wish u a nice 2010.
Thanks for your efforts and share.
Hi. The HDRIs are superb. I guess… However, I cannot download any of them, when the download reaches 99 percent, the download crashes with the message, that the connection has ben reset. Shame, as I love Austria and the HDRIs remind me of the great time I have spent in Salzburg.
i don´t think it is a problem with the site. Donwloads are fully functional. Use a search engine with the search terms “download stops at 99%” and I think you will find a solution.
greetings from Austria 🙂
i use Cinema4d. how would i use the image as a background like in the previews pics posted here?
Thank you so much for sharing. It makes a nice change.
Great, great job 😀
How can I convert to mov? Everytime I import the pictures and try to play them my imovie crashes 🙁
Your HDRI panos are amazing and so crisp. What’s the secret to making such good ones? Fisheye lens? Chrome ball?
For the hdri panos I use a Fisheye lens 10.5mm.
Beautiful work and amazing site, really nice initiative to release in CC license.
If I use your work I won’t forget you in the credits for sure!
The only thing I want from you is that you write my site http://www.openfootage.net in the credits of your work.
And you deserve it. My question is:
Is the credit a legal requirement in every version of the work I make with the footage? Or is it simply requested?
In other words if I make an award winning music video on MTV and use some of this footage but do not put http://www.openfootage.net on the MTV broadcast version, will you sue me and make me wish I had stuck with mowing lawns? Will you want money? or will you insist there be a credit in the broadcast version and send a cease and desist? Or will you just chalk it up to some noob got lucky?
This effort can only be rewarded, take my money!
This is awesome, and so very appreciated. Making a short documentary with some young indigenous-identifying youth, all around the theme of water, so very much appreciate being able to use high quality images of macro water drops and timelapses – beyond our technical capabilities. You rock.
Nice blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?
A design like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog stand out.
Please let me know where you got your theme.
You write this:
All footages are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Austria License, reselling or redistribution on other websites is not allowed.
Sorry, but that is not possible. The license clearly forbids to add additional restrictions, and certainly not a restricton that makes the idea of Creative Commons invalid.
Maybe Creative commons is not thr right choice. I simply don´t want people to sell an exact duplicate of the footage on another footage blog. Making money with no additional adaptation. On the other hand I want that people can use it commercially in Films , Games etc. but not in the same as I do with my blog….
I love your explosions! Would you offer a discount to me if I downloaded several videos? Do you have some sort of pack?
Hi Chris thanks for the feedback! There is a discount of -10% if you buy more than eight products right non. Greetings Markus
